Porto venue change - Aug 24, 2010

Attention Portugal! The Porto show on October 3 is now moved to the Hard Club. See you there!

And the winners are... - Aug 17, 2010

The final voting round for the local support contest for the upcoming DARK TRANQUILLITY "WHERE DEATH IS MOST ALIVE TOUR 2010" came to an end. Close to 600 bands from all over Europe submitted to the contest and Century Media picked the 158 best to take part of the voting. Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R Century Media Records Europe:

"I know it's a cliché that a record label A&R will never listen to any demo bands are sending in. But me and my college Dario Dumancic listened to ALL 600 bands!!! Why we picked only 158? Because not every band seemed to be ready to play in front of Dark Tranquillity's fans because these fans bought a ticket for the shows and deserve a certain quality. And most other bands were too far away from playing anything to close to Death Metal. Where Death Is Most Alive? Everywhere! It was great to see again how vivid our scene is and what a great amount of great bands is out there from far north Iceland to the southern shores of Spain – just everywhere. Unfortunately only one band per show could win, but we want to thank all bands for taking part and we want to wish all of them good luck for the future – you deserve it! And we want to thank the close to 50.000 metalheads who took the time, listened to the bands and voted for them! We know that there has been some criticism about the technical side of the voting process and that some bands might plaid unfair to generate more votes. We promise to come up with a more fair and saver online voting system next time. But we hope you will enjoy your favourite bands on the tour with Dark Tranquillity and Insomnium. Horns Up!"

Dark tranquillity guitarist announces public art exhibition in Sibiu, Transylvania - Aug 3, 2010

In association with Dark tranquillity's appearance at the ARTmania festival, guitarist Niklas Sundin will showcase a new collection of artwork at the Bohemian flow club in Sibiu, Transylvania. Entitled “Ichtys”, the exhibition opens on August 14 and will be on display for a month.

Says Sundin:

“Needless to say, I’m really excited about this. There have been previous requests from people wanting to feature my artwork in public exhibitions, but I’ve always had mixed feelings. It wouldn’t be too interesting to just display the album artwork that I’m primary recognized for, so I’ve wanted to wait until I had something that would be completely free of any connotations to commissioned music industry work and at the same time have a certain red thread, conceptually and aesthetically.

The “Ichtys” images are mainly derived from pencil drawings that are scanned, treated and assembled into collages, and the result is part medieval woodcut, part religious iconography and part nautical cartoon profanity. Influences range from Dürer and Bosch to David B and Joakim Pirinen, and there’s obviously a major resemblance to my own “Gadus morhua” books. The city of Sisiu seems to be an appropriate setting for this kind of amalgam of old and new, so I was very pleased when the ARTmania people suggested that I’d exhibit something.”

Niklas' sketchbooks available again - July 2, 2010

Dark tranquillity guitarist Niklas Sundin is re-publishing his long sold-out GADUS MORHUA books from 2005-2006.

"These sketchbooks were originally planned to be a just-for-fun project; a way for me to keep track of my compulsive drawing habit as well as a service to the people that saw my sketches and urged me to publish them in book form.

The original editions were limited, and there was no intention to make them available again after they initially sold out some years ago. However, since then I've gotten so many requests on tours and recieved so many emails from people that missed out the first time, so I'm pleased to announce that both books are now available again.

The content is identical to the original versions, but the new edition books are or higher quality and are printed in a 19x19 cm square format that better showcases the images and gives them room to breathe."

Tour recap - June 17, 2010

Your favourite merry band of metallers are now finally home on Swedish soil after a successful string of shows in USA, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Uruguay.

We'd like to extend a massive thanks to everyone involved - the guys in Threat signal and Mutiny within, the hard working crew, the local opening bands and of course all the fans - new and old - that came out to the shows.

For the Latin American tour, a special thanks must go to Alex and John @ Eyescream productions for their professionalism and for making the trip such a great experience for us. It was an amazing trek, and we were very glad to finally play in no less than three new countries for us - Peru, Uruguay and Brazil. Can't wait to come back!

For those who are unaware: our Twitter page features daily updates and photos from our life on the road, so visit and add if you haven't already done so.

SUPPORT BAND CONTEST:

The response for the previously announced local support band contest for the upcoming European "Where death is most alive part II" tour has been massive. Almost 500 bands have reported their interest to participate, and new submissions are coming in on an hourly basis.

There is still roughly a week to go before the contest closes and moves on to the voting phase, so interested bands should head over to www.centurymedia.com for more info on how the contest works.

FESTIVALS:

This summer will be the busiest in a long time for us. We kickstart the festival season this weekend with a special appearance at Metaltown here in Gothenburg, and then there are new shows almost every weekend. These are the most recent additions to the schedule:

Aug 14 - Artmania festival - Sibiu, Romania
Aug 28 - Kalmar rock bay - Kalmar, Sweden

European tour support contest 2010 - May 31, 2010

Dark Tranquillity and Century Media are searching for local support bands for the upcoming WHERE DEATH IS MOST ALIVE TOUR part II 2010 in Europe. Main support is coming from Insomnium who won this years Finnish Metal Awards for Best Band and Best Album.

Avatar will replace Insomnium as main support on the last 11 shows. Omnium Gatherum will be special guests on all 6 Finnish shows.

How does it work?
You send an e-mail to cmtour@centurymedia.de to submit your band for one or more shows (see dates below). Please send only your MySpace link, link to one of your YouTube videos and a short description. Please don’t send MP3’s or attach any photos, bios, etc.

Deadline is June 25th, 2010.

Century Media Records and The Agency Group will select the bands that fit best (all kind of metal is welcome) and you will get a confirmation and letter of rules to take part of the poll.
The poll starts July 1st, 2010 and ends August 2nd, 2010.
You tell all your friends and fans to vote for you on www.centurymedia.com/vote to become the local support in the city/cities you applied for.
Each fan who signed in can give one vote per show per day.
August 6th, 2010 the bands with the most votes will be informed to be the local support.
In case the winning band can’t play the show (for whatever reason) the second band will be informed... and so on.

Main rules for the winning bands:

- all band members need to be over 18 years old
- you will be the opening band and your stage time is minimum 20 minutes
- you have to bring your own instruments and backline
- you will not receive any fee
- you will get one case of beer and basic catering at the venue
- you have to do what the tour manager is telling you because he’s the king of the road

Stanne remembers Ronnie James Dio - May 29, 2010

It´s been a while now and I still cannot deal with the fact that you are gone. Your voice, your passion and humility has been a constant guiding light in my life. You have always been a hero in my house and with my family. The many times I´ve met you I have been amazed by your grace and generosity.
I love you and there are no words to express how much I miss you.

"Shadow in our blood" video now available - February 4, 2010

Stanne:

“Four shows into the tour we are now in lovely Atlanta, Georgia. The shows so far have been amazing. Tons of people have come out to all the shows and we have had a blast performing every night. We have been trying out some of the new songs and the response has been amazing. So we cannot wait for the album to come out so that we can play more of the new stuff that we are very proud of.

The video for "Shadow in our Blood" is online now and if you guys are into torture you might get a kick out of it. Imagine being strapped to a speeding motorized vehicle like one of those wooden maidens on pirate ships for 15 hours in the freezing cold forests of Finland and you might get an idea of what the video is all about.

The guys from Vasara films, who also filmed and edited our live DVD “Where Death Is Most Alive” once again did an excellent job. Enjoy!”

Metaltown confirmed - January 26, 2010

Once again we have the pleasure of playing in our hometown. On June 19, we'll grace the Metaltown festival. More info can be found here:
