Avast ye, landlubbers! - November 26, 2006
The first gig for 2007 is now confirmed! On February 15, we'll embark on the CLOSE-UP-BÅTEN cruise from Stockholm, on which we'll play together with fellow acts and pro drinkers like Tiamat, Pain and Dimension zero.
The show will showcase some material from the upcoming record, so don't miss this golden opportunity to listen to the new stuff before everyone else (provided that the album hasn't leaked by then of course...).
I can´t believe it....We made it! It´s done and there is nothing I can do about it. Just got back from the studio where everything is now shipped off to Denmark where Tue Madsen will perform his magicky magic on the things we´ve been working on these last 7 weeks.
I just finished the last vocal lines a couple of days ago and it feels sweet. As always with recordings there is alot of stress and selfdoubt but being in a more than familiar environment in Martin's studio (Rogue) has helped tremendously. The recordings have not only been smooth and focused but the overall feeling that we are creating something amazing has really driven us through this.
It turned out so different and diverse that the hardest thing for me now is to find a suitable title for the whole thing. How can i sum up in a title something that is everything and nothing, grounded and out there, intorvert and extra-terrestial all at the same time?
Well, keep watching this space and I will let you know soon enough.
Right now I am just so glad it´s done. Anders did a fantastic job grinding and beating (off) in the studio, Micke has delivered some really crushing bass, Martin and Niklas have really outdone themselves with great riffs and truly outstanding solos and Martin B has poured alot of misery and anxiety into his soundscapes.
Now all we do is wait for the mix, and this being our first time mixing out of house so to speak we are really excited to hear what the hell we´ve been up to!
Cheers,
/Mikael
Studio update - October 26, 2006
Just a quick update on the studio progress. We're now roughly three weeks into the recording of our 8th (or is it 9th? Depends on how you count...) full length offering, and everything has more or less proceeded according to the plans.
Drums were brutally nailed the first week, and we´re currently working simultanously with guitars, bass, vocals and electronics at Martin B's own Rogue studio, enabling the songs to gradually develop from their embryonic skeleton structures into fully equipped carriers of oblivion and pestilence.
Producer Tue Madsen was here during the first days of the process and did a great job setting up the basic sound for all the instruments. When everything is recorded, the material will be taken to his Antfarm studio in Denmark for the final mixing and mastering, after which we'll let you in on some further info regarding the contents the album.
Of chaos and eternal ink - October 25, 2006
Head over to the tattoo section for some new, original and innovative examples of D.T. related skin art that have appeared in our inbox.
Album recording starting soon - October 1 , 2006
Arrived back home in one piece (well, six pieces to be exact). Huge thanks to all promotors, fans and of course to our crew buddies/caretakers Bryan and Andrew for having made this trip such a great experience. We'll be back a.s.a.p.!
Photos from the shows have started appearing in our mailbox, and we urge everyone with quality shapshots (especially the guy with the professional camera at both shows in Korea) to submit them to darkhq@gmail.com.
The recording sessions for the next album will begin next week, so we'll post an update when things start taking form.
On the top of the world - September 22, 2006
Finally got some time out of the hectic schedule to issue a website update from the luxurious bar of our hotel in Korea. After traveling for 24 hours straight, via three different flights, we've finally arrived to Seoul and spent some quality seightseeing time visiting the 63 building and the War memorial of Korea before getting some well-needed rest for the first time in two weeks. Hence, tonight's show at the Rolling hall is bound to be a massive energy explosion that will leave no-one unaffected.
Speaking of Korea, the fine people at Dope entertainment have issued a re-release of "Character" to coincide with our gigs here. The new version features the "Lost to apathy" and "The new build" video clips.
Tip of the day: If you're a fan of technical/progressive bands like Atheist and Cynic, check out the excellent Alarum, who supported us on the Sydney and Melbourne dates.
Btw...we played some new stuff in Australia. In the words of the Black Eyed Peas: Check it out!
Korea - August 30, 2006
For those of you that have mailed us about more info on the Korean shows, here are some links:
General update + Costa Rica video added - August 4, 2006
The songwriting for the new album is progressing nicely. 10-11 songs have now been demoed, and we're busy doing the final adjustments and modifications before it's time to depart for the long awaited Japan/Korea/Australia tour.
A bootleg clip of "The wonders at your feet" and "Monochromatic stains" from the show in Costa Rica last June is now uploaded to our MySpace page for your limitless enjoyment. Find it in the video section.
Australia, Korea & Japan dates announced! - July 20, 2006
The rumours are true - we're indeed coming to Australia, but not only that; we're including Japan and Korea on the same trip.
Throughout the years, we've recieved tons of questions from fans down under wanting us to play there, so needless to say we're extremely pleased to finally have gotten the chance to deliver some metal mayhem in the land of Foster's and kangaroos.
Playing in Japan and Korea is always a fantastic experience, so it'll be a pleasure to come back for the first time in 2-3 years and play the first "Character" based shows in these territories.
These are the dates. More info regarding support bands etc will follow as soon as we know anything.
07.09.2006 Osaka, Japan - club Quattro

New song showcased at Evolution festival - July 18, 2006
Just returned home from one of the very best festivals there is. We had a blast meeting lots of old friends as well as watching some great performances by the other bands including the mighty Atheist - one of our biggest influences back in the day.
In order to give something extra to the ever-supportive Italian maniacs, we decided to play "Blind at heart" from the upcoming album, and judging from the great response we're definitely on to a winner.
Photos from the event will be uploaded shortly. In the meantime, check out these pics from the Borlänge show the previous weekend:
The following clips have been added to our MySpace site:
Lost to apathy - promo video
The new build - promo video
Final resistance - live in Seoul, Korea 2005
The wonders at your feet - live in Busan, Korea 2005
We just got informed that the show from last year's Gates of metal festival will be re-aired on the Swedish national radio P3. The date for this skullcrushing audio feast is June the 6th, and the performance can also be enjoyed online. More info on the broadcast will follow later on.
More album info - June 14, 2006
We can now confirm that we'll be working with acclaimed Danish producer Tue Madsen for the next album. The effort will be mixed in his Antfarm studio, while the actual recording will take place in different premises here in Sweden. Drums will be set to tape at the old Studio Fredman, while guitars, bass, vocals and electronics will be immortalized at Rogue music.
The album is as yet untitled, but some working titles (that may or may not change) are "Blind at heart", "The lesser faith", "InsignifiCunt" and "The plunge".
On a much more tragic note, we're sad to report that Jim Nunis, founder of J.Nunis custom guitars, recently passed away. Visit jnunisguitars.com for the official release.
New album details outlined + more - May 28, 2006
No updates for a while, but rest assured that we haven't been resting on our laurels. We're insanely busy with the songwriting for the next album, and it's now decided that the recordings will start in October. More details about studios (yes, that's in plural), working partners and so forth will follow as soon as everything is 100% confirmed.
As for the music itself, the material we're working on covers the whole gamut from laid back acoustic sections to furious blastbeats, so you can all look forward to a diverse and challenging offering. Most songs are still in the embryonic stages, so it'll be interesting to see how things develop.
Some media goodness to make the wait for the next magnum opus easier: A 15-minute video clip of our gig at the Fury fest in France (June 25, 2005) has been uploaded to our MySpace page. As usual with these homemade recordings, the quality itsn't stellar, but it gives a good enough representation of the show.
Also, we found an old version of "Away, delight, away" from an 8-track promo recording we did in our rehearsal studio back in the spring of 1994. This is an early incarnation of the song that differs slightly from the version that ended up on the "Of chaos and eternal night" MCD. The promo itself also contained "Punish my heaven" and "The gallery", and was sent out to a select few record labels and tape trading contacts.
We'll make an appearance at the Peace & love festival in Borlänge, Sweden, which will take place July 4-8. Exact date to be announced soon.
Some new live and tattoo pics are now uploaded to the media section - check it out!
Home from the North American tour - March 23, 2006
Just arrived back home to the frosty plains of Sweden after having spent the last five weeks on the road. The tour was a huge success, with almost all dates being sold out. Massive thanks to Opeth, Devildriver, Devin Townsend band and of course to all of you that visited the shows.
Live photos will be added in the near future. If you've got any good ones, feel free to submit them to darkhq [at] gmail.com.
The main focus now will be the songwriting for the next album, so we'll be keeping a pretty low profile on the festival curcuit this summer, only doing a selected few shows.
San Diego chaos - March 14, 2006
Yesterday's show in San Diego turned out more than a little weird. Due to our bus breaking down on the way from S.F., we arrived to the venue extremely late, not knowing whether we'd be actually be allowed to play or not. Eventually it was decided that if the gear could be set up in record time, there would be room for us to play 3-4 songs.
We regret that we couldn't deliver a show up to our usual standards, but during the circumstances we decided that it was better to play a short punk rock style set instead of cancelling altogether. We'll make up for it next time.
Kudos to Devildriver for agreeing to playing early, thanks guys!
Umeå show + Evolution festival confirmed - March 10, 2006
Shows for 2006 are beginning to get booked now. First out is a gig together with Evergrey and Bloodbound at the SkyCom Arena in Umeå, Sweden on April 28. Click below for ticket information:
Also, we're glad to announce that we'll be back at Italy's great Evolution festival, which takes place between the 14th and 16th of July. Exact schedule will be available soon, but check the homepage in the meantime:
A quick update from the road: Things are going great so far - we're having a blast on every show, and both DTB and Opeth are delivering amazing performances night after night.
All gigs have gone well, but yesterday's headline show in Montreal deserves a special mention for being nothing short of AMAZING. The crowd reaction, atmosphere and general vibe was truly spectacular, and we all agreed that it was easily among the top 5 shows ever in our 17-year old career. Hopefully we'll have a video clip from the event up and running soon.
Mikael discusses junk food on national TV - Feb 18, 2006
In the latest episode of the Swedish metal show "Rundgång", Mikael reveals his trade secrets as a longtime junkfood connoisseur. The show was aired yesterday on the SVT network and can be seen online at this location (click on the "Se del 4 av Rundgång" link):

Raleigh show cancellation explanation - Feb 16, 2006
As most of you have heard, we didn't play the 1st gig of the tour due to a missed flight in Paris. Due to foggy weather conditions, the plane from Gothenburg to Paris took off a bit later than scheduled. Despite the airline staff guaranteeing that they'd keep the connecting plane to Atlanta on hold and even arranging a special shuttle taking us to the gate as quickly as possible, we were met with a "too late, sorry" response when trying to check in.
Our management checked all possible options for booking a new flight to allow us to make it to Raleigh in time, but ultimately we had no other choice than to wait for the next Paris-Atlanta flight 24 hours later.
We're really sorry for the inconvenience caused, but hope that everyone understands that what happened was solely the fault of Delta Airlines and not the band, management or any promotor. We did our outmost to solve the problem, but unfortunately it couldn't be done.
Leaving for the US + S.F. show just announced! - Feb 13, 2006
The packing is done! We are heading back to the states! Six lowlife degenerates here from the foggiest, snowiest and coldest Gothenburg are coming over the Atlantic to bring the metal! Touring with the ever amazing Opeth and the one and only Devin Townsend will be a rare treat for sure as well as Devildriver later on.
We have been plotting and scheming about our ever elusive setlist for some time and we believe we have something very special for you all, both for the support dates and especially for the headline shows! Can´t wait to bring you guys the full-on Dark Tranquillity experience. Be prepared!
/Mikael Stanne

Note that darktranquillity.com still is the place to go for the latest news and info. There's no time to keep the MySpace page constantly updated, so it's mainly there as a service to the tons of people using the community. Also, since there are some other D.T. MySpace pages out there that many seem to think are official but are in fact fan pages, we might as well put up one ourselves to avoid any confusion. So - welcome!

New year, new adventures - Jan 02, 2006
Another year has ended, so it's time for some kind of wrap-up. 2005 has by far been the most hectic year in our history, with nearly 100 shows played in almost every corner of the world. Even though we're worn out and dirt poor, with livers screaming for mercy, we'll soldier on with more touring. The next installment of the "Character" crusade will be a five-week US trip as main support to OPETH, starting in mid-February. Watch this space for details.
Thanks to everyone that showed up at the Stockholm and Gothenburg shows a few days ago. We had a good time and enjoyed being able to play exclusive full-length sets in our home country for the first time in a while.
Renowned webzine Tartarean desire has awarded "Character" the following flattering positions in their 2005 summary:
Top albums released in 2005: 1. Dark Tranquillity - Character
Best death metal albums 2005: 1. Dark Tranquillity - Character
Best cover art 2005: 1. Dark Tranquillity - Character
Best songs 2005: 2. Dark Tranquillity - Through Smudged Lenses
Best male singer 2005: 2. Mikael Stanne
What more? The live photo and tattoo galleries have been updated, so feel free to have a look.
And last, a huge salute and best wishes for the new year to all of you that in some way have supported us during 2005.
Vivitur ingenio, caetera mortis erunt!

Back home from the European tour - Dec 23, 2005
Just got home from the European tour and would like to thank everyone that took part of it. Massive cheers to Hatesphere, Chimaira, the crew and of course to all of you that had the good taste of attending the shows.
Some live photos can be found at darkillity.net and photopit.com. After some well-needed rest and relaxation, we'll update this page with pics from various shows that people have mailed.
Tour starts tomorrow - Nov 27, 2005
Home for a few hours before it's time to catch the plane to the UK where the first show will take place tomorrow. If time and energy will allow, we might do some tour reports along the way, so watch this space for details.
Yesterday's gig in Växjö was a blast, with the crazy people in the front row tearing down the security barricades already during the 2nd song. Cheers to you all!
Well, hope to see as many of you as possible during the next month!
X-mas tickets online, Gran Canaria video uploaded - Nov 21, 2005
The tickets for the previously announced X-mas shows in Sweden are now available online via Ticnet. Click below to place your order before the events get sold out:
The European tour starts in a couple of days, and we're insanely busy with the final preparations. To show you what kind of crowd response we'd like to see, here is a clip of "The wonders at your feet" and half of "Zodijackyl light" from the show on Gran Canaria the 1st of October. The sound and picture quality isn't the best, so it's for die-hards only, but the atmosphere is present in spades:
Finally, we'd like to thank the audience and staff at the Motala Metal Fest for the great response last weekend!
Niklas publishes illustration book - Nov 13, 2005
As many of you know, I'm not only a criminally overrated guitarist but also a freelance graphic designer, having created artwork for bands like In flames, Arch enemy, Sentenced and so forth. During the years I've recieved lots of requests for some sort of book with my work, and now the time has come.
"Gadus morhua" features 132 pages of b/w drawings created between 1993 and 2005. These days, when everyone and his dog can toy around in Photoshop and create "artwork" by blending a few layers, it feels nice to release a collection of old fashioned pencil drawings, created directly in my sketchbook without any preparational work. Just spontaneous ink-on-paper.
Those who are interested can head over to cabinfevermedia.com for some previews as well as video clips that show the typical development process of a drawing. It usually starts with an eye...

Brändström writes for Poker Magazine - Oct 24, 2005
Attention swedish fans!
As you all know, the game of poker has had a huge upswing the last years. Some of us in the band have picked up the habit, and nowadays we're always on the lookout for some card playing action during our travels around the globe.
In the light of this I have hustled myself a column in Sweden's Poker Magazine. I'll contribute regularly, telling you about our endeavours both as hard working metallers and as compulsive gamblers.
The first column, about the escapades at President Casino, Biloxi (since then completely destroyed by the hurricane Katrina), is printed in this month's issue which goes on sale tomorrow, so be sure to pick it up!
/Martin Brändström

In other words, it's a real co-headline tour (as opposed to certain other trips in the past that have been labeled as such for no apparant reason).
Here are the tentative dates. More shows and more info will be added soon, so this isn't the final list.

We're sorry to announce that due to several reasons beyond our control, we're not able to do the previously announced Arch enemy/Trivium tour in Sep/Oct. We were looking forward to the trip and examined all possible solutions, but at the end of the day we have no option but to cancel our participation. Apologies to the people that got their hopes up as well as to the Arch enemy camp.
Touring extravaganza! - Aug 16, 2005
The touring schedule for the autumn/winter is now starting to unfold. To begin with, we're happy to announce that we'll support fellow Swedes ARCH ENEMY on their European tour, together with TRIVIUM. These are the currently confirmed dates; it's great to see that there's a whopping five dates in the UK, a country that hasn't seen so much D.T. action in the past.

Sep. 27 - Cardiff, UK @ Coal Exchange
Sep. 28 - Wolverhampton, UK @ Wolfrun Hall
Sep. 29 - Glasgow, UK @ QMU

Oct. 10 - Hamburg, GER @ Markthalle
Oct. 11 - Berlin, GER @ Columbia Club
Furthermore, there are plans for a headline tour throughout Europe by the end of the year as well as a return to the U.S. as soon as possible. Watch this space for more info, and - as usual - please don't email us asking whether or not we'll be coming to your town/country, as we aren't involved with or have any insight into the booking process. As soon as something is confirmed, you'll read about it here.
Festival season soon over, GOM gig recorded - Aug 8, 2005
Only Summer breeze left, and then the most intense festival season in the history of the band is over. We're pleased to announce that the show at the Gates of metal festival in Hultsfred, Sweden was recorded by the Swedish national radio and will be broadcasted on their P3 LIVE show at some point in the future.
The upcoming autumn will hopefully mean more touring and mayhem, and the songwriting for the next album will soon commence.
US Merch update - July 30, 2005
To our American fans - please note that some of the new shirt designs are now available at JSR Direct.
"The new build" video online! - July 26, 2005
That's right, folks! This little live/backstage gem has already been shown on Headbangers ball in the States and is currently being aired on the usual channels. As previously reported, "The new build" was directed by Roger Johansson and features live footage shot in (among other cities) London, Barcelona, Paris and Gothenburg during the last European tour.
To see the clip on Century media's homepage in streaming Real video format, click here. To download it in Quicktime format (50 MB), click here.
Some minor site updates: The tattoo page is re-opened; check it out in the media section.
On a similar visual note (and since one is allowed one shameless self-plug per year), Niklas' design/illustration studio Cabin fever media recently got a revamped web site, so check it out here if interested.
We're currently doing our best to secure as much touring as possible for the autumn/winter and hope to be able to present some details in the near future. Until then, there are still some festivals left to infest - see you there!
Back home from Italy and Finland... - July 18, 2005
...where we had a great time performing at two very well organized and nice festivals. Big thanks to the staff at Evolution and Ilosaarirock, and everyone else that participated!
Sorry for not being able to stay around for autographs after the show at the Evolution festival, but we literally had to run from the stage to the van in order to catch the plane to Finland. We'll make up for it next time.
Evolution festival - important announcement - June 30, 2005
Those of you attending the Evolution festival in Italy on the 16th of July should note that we're onstage VERY early: 12:00-13:30. We were originally scheduled to play right before headliners Nightwish, but the fact that we're doing the Ilosaarirock festival in Finland the following day unfortunately means that moving the slot is the only solution (apart from cancelling one of the festivals, which naturally wasn't an option).
So - make sure to show up in time to make the first breakfast gig in D.T.'s history a special event!
Graspop and Fury fest last weekend went really well - thanks to all of you maniacs for the support!
Jewellery endorsement! - June 24, 2005
On a totally different topic, we're pleased to announce that we're now endorsed by Bonnie and Clyde jewellery, so head over to their homepage at www.bonnie-clyde.se and check their goods out!
Back from the S.A. trip - June 24, 2005
Yep, we've returned home after a very exciting and successful trip to South/Central america and would like to thank everyone involved; the promotors & agents, the excellent local support bands, the club owners, our touring crew and of course the extremely devoted audiences in Mexico, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Colombia. Michael Nicklasson extends a special thanks to Black line tattoo in San José for the new ink on this arm.
It has been a crazy ride, featuring our first ever night of playing two full live gigs in a row (Mexico City was subjected to nearly three hours of mayhem in total) as well as the less pleasurable experience of getting our sweaty faces sprayed with mace onstage at the gig in Maracay, Venezuela - but that's what happens when you strike the chords of chaos! All in all, it was a great adventure and we're really flattered by the awesome crowd response on all of the gigs. Thanks a lot to every single one of you!! Video footage from some of the shows will be posted here as soon as time permits.
While on the subject, we're sorry that some of the places that initially were planned for inclusion on the tour didn't make it to the end. We can assure you that we - the band members - didn't have anything to do with this, and that we're equally disappointed by not getting to visit Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Guatemala this time around. Like most other artists, we want to play everywhere, but it should be understood that the music business is very unpredictable and there are hundreds of possible reasons why changes sometimes occur to a touring schedule. The logistics are complex, and lots of different variables need to fall into place before an operation as big as bringing in a band, crew and equipment from the other side of the world can happen.
This is luckily obvious to most people, but since there are those who genuinely seem to think that a cancelled show means that the members of the band must hate the country, its inhabitans and everything it stands for (and who take it personally enough to whine about it in emails), it's worth pointing out that in 99% of all cases, the bands themselves have NOTHING to do with their tour schedules and eventual changes therein. If you think otherwise, you're seriously deluding yourself.
Rant aside, we definitely hope to be back as soon as possible and to be able to include more countries next time - let's keep our fingers crossed! In a few hours, we'll depart for this weekend's share of festivals - Graspop and Fury fest. See you there!
D.T. at Myspace? - June 23, 2005
Some people have been contacting us recently about the D.T. page at Myspace.com, wondering if it's authentic. Neither us or Century media was aware of its existance until recently, so it's probably set up by a fan.
While we appreciate the effort and think it's great that our band info and some music is available in such a big online community, it's worth noting that the D.T. members themselves aren't in any way involved in the Myspace page. Judging by the comments, a lot of the visitors aren't aware of this, so that's why we mention it here. Just to avoid confusion.
TWO shows in Mexico City! - June 8, 2005
Leaving for the South American tour in a few hours and just got informed that there will be two gigs on the same night (June 11) in Mexico City, due to the big ticket demand.
Both gigs are at the same venue, Hard rock live. The 1st one will start at 20:30 and the second at 22:30.
"The new build" screenshots are here! - May 30, 2005
Here are some teasers from the "The new build" video. As previously reported, it was shot by director Roger Johansson, who followed us on the European tour in Feb/March and gathered some live footage.
You'll all be able to see the full clip in the next few weeks. In the meantime, enjoy the pics below.
Metaltown festival, more info - May 16, 2005
The homepage for the Metaltown festival (Gothenburg, 30th of July) is now updated with more info. Have a look at www.metaltown.se.
Tour finished, video from Canada uploaded - May 11, 2005
We just got home from the highly successful US tour and would like to thank everyone that took part of it. Massive cheers to Soilwork, Hypocrisy and Mnemic as well as the hard-working crew for delivering the goods night after night - see you all soon! Both us and Century media are eager to bring us back to US soil as quickly as possible, so let's hope that things can be worked out.
In the meantime, enjoy this little video clip of our first ever song in Canada: "The treason wall", recorded in Quebec on the 3rd of May.
UPDATE: More news on the South America tour are popping up on a daily basis. We just recieved the names of some of the venues:
Monterrey, June 10: Cafe iguana
Mexico City, June 11: Hard rock live
Maracay, June 12: Concha Acustica
Bogota, June 19: Teatro Jorge Eliecer gaitan
Be aware that the band members aren't involved in the booking in any way, so there's no use emailing us asking for information. As soon as something is confirmed, we put it here on the website.
South America update + Metaltown festival - May 10, 2005
The following dates are now confirmed for the South American trek. Further countries will hopefully be added soon.
Friday, June 10 - Monterrey, Mexico
Saturday, June 11 - Mexico City, Mexico
Sunday, June 12 - Maracay, Venezuela
Tuesday, June 14 - San Juan, Puerto Rico
Sunday, June 19 - Bogota, Colombia
Also, we're now confirmed to play at the Metaltown festival in our hometown of Gothenburg on the July 30.
All hail Canada! - May 6, 2005
We just finished our three dates in Canada and would like to thank the AMAZING crowds in Montreal, Toronto and Quebec. We had been waiting for a long time to get over and play for you guys, and we were totally overwhelmed with the response we got. Can't wait to come back!
The tour is nearing its end now, and it has been a great ride for everyone involved. Tonight we're performing at the BW&BK festival in Cleveland, where we'll play an extended 60 minute set. After that, it's time for Detroit before heading back to Sweden to get some well-needed rest and showers.
New guitar for Niklas - April 27, 2005
Just got here to the Masquerade in Atlanta and was presented with an unbelievably cool Dark tranquillity axe, courtsey of J.Nunis custom guitars. More pics will be up in the near future, but this little baby plays like a monster! Huge thanks to Jim and Jason for making it happen - I'm truly impressed and can't wait to use it onstage tonight!
"The new build" video finished - April 26, 2005
We just got to see the final version of the "The new build" clip and are really pleased with how it all turned out. As previously reported, director Roger Johansson joined us for 5-6 dates of the European tour, filming the performances in London, Paris and Barcelona among others, and the end result is an intense and fast video giving a good impression of the D.T. live experience as well as showing some backstage antics.
The clip is being sent out to the usual stations as we speak, so you will all be able to see it soon.
Evolution festival confirmed - April 23, 2005
We can now confirm that we'll play at the Evolution festival in Italy on the 16th of July.
Further news: The Dutch fansite www.dark-tranquillity.nl has been updated with a new layout, so check it out.
Houston calling - April 20, 2005
The US tour is progressing very well so far - we really can tell that "Character" is making a mark in the States, and the crowd response is better than ever. All bands on the bill are delivering killer performances on stage, and the soberiety level is impressingly low. Huge thanks to everyone that have attended the shows and helped to make this such a success. Some live photos/videos are posted in the official D.T. forum.
Before the Anaheim gig a few days ago, we managed to spend some hours in Disneyland. Here is what it looked like:
U.S. - here we come! - April 3, 2005
Greetings minions! This morning we embark once again to the shores of America. We are all very excited about going on this scandinavian drunken crusade. See you all at the bar!
South American tour + further festival frenzy - April 1, 2005
Finally! We've been working for a South American tour for a long time and now we can officially confirm that we'll play in the following places. Exact dates are to be announced soon, but the tour will start on the 9th of June.
Mexico City, Mexico
Guatemala City, Guatemala
Bogota, Colombia
Santiago, Chile
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Booking by matrix/empire entertainment.
No further info (support bands etc) is availabe at this point.
We're now confirmed for Sweden's Gates of metal festival, taking place on the 6th of August. This means that the current summer schedule looks something like this:
June 25 - Fury fest, France
June 26 - Graspop, Belgium
July 9 - Tivolirocken, Kristianstad, Sweden
July 28 - Storsjöyran, Östersund, Sweden
July 16/17 - Ilosaarirock, Finland
August 6 - Gates of metal, Sweden
August 18 - Summer breeze, Germany
New website design - March 30, 2005
As you can see, things look a bit differently in here. It's usually a major no-no to upload a new site before it's 100% finished, but the design has been ready for quite some time, so we figured that we might as well put it online before we embark on the US tour and gradually fill it with content. We have a new, very successful album out, so still having the "Damage done" design grace our digital home felt a bit lame.
So - I hope you like this and that you have patience with some sections being a bit on the empty side at the moment. Error reports and frustrated outbursts regarding the use of obsolete tags, complete disregard for CSS-based design and generally unsmooth coding can be directed to niklas [at] darktranquillity [dot] com.
General band info can also be found in the Encyclopaedia Metallum.
The old version of the homepage, with tons of content, can be viewed here.
More festival action! - March 5, 2005
Two Swedish festivals just confirmed:
July 9 - Tivolirocken, Kristianstad
July 28 - Storsjöyran, Östersund
And, as previously reported, we'll appear here as well:
June 25 - Fury fest, France
June 26 - Graspop, Belgium
July 16/17 - Ilosaarirock, Finland
August 18 - Summer breeze, Germany
A new version of the website is in progress, but we've made a slight facelift to this incarnation in the meantime. Things may be looking a bit weird on some pages, but you're used to that, right?
New endorsement deal - March 15, 2005
We're proud to announce that Henriksson, Sundin and Nicklasson now are endorsed by Seymour duncan. We've been using their pickups for years, and obviously it feels very flattering to be added to their impressive roster of top musicians.
"Character" re-appearing in the charts- March 10, 2005
Seems like the recent Swedish gigs got us some new fans, as "Character" now is back in the national chart at position #37. In the metal chart, the album is enjoying its seventh week, currently residing at #5.
European tour finished - thanks, people! - March 07, 2005
Hi people,
we've just finished the last gig of the Kreator / Ektomorf / Hatesphere tour and would like to send a warm "thank you!" to everyone involved; our new friends in the bands, the crew and of course everyone that attended the shows. This was one of the most successful tours we've ever had the pleasure of doing, and rest assured that we'll be back on the European stages in the near future.
For those of you that couldn't come to the shows, here's some firsthand information on what you missed out on. Since all kinds of info has been floating around on the internet regarding playing time, setlists etc, it's best to set the record straight. We played for 45 minutes, with the
exception of the gigs in Sweden that were extended to 55 minutes. The following songs were played at some point during the tour (alternating every night):
The treason well
Lost to apahty
Through smudged lenses
One thought
White noise / black silence
The new build
The wonders at your feet
Scythe, rage and roses
Punish my heaven
My negation
The endless feed
Of chaos and eternal night
Final resistance
As previously reported, we have a new video in the works. Director Roger Johansson followed us for some days on the tour, recording the mayhem and frenzy of the shows in London, Barcelona and Paris among others, and the result will be a crushing promo clip for "The new build". More info will follow in the near future.
More news - the "Lost to apathy" video can now be seen online here. As usual, we recommend using Real alternative instead of the standard Real player.
Well, that's all for now. We'll be taking some well-deserved rest in order to be in top shape for the US tour with Soilwork, Hypocrisy and Mnemic, which will start in less than a month. See you there!
As usual, big thanks to Gtranquillity / www.dark-tranquillity.nl
for compiling the list.
Newsflash / 2004-11-29
We just found out that "Lost to apathy" entered
the Swedish single chart at position #47! We didn't expect
to hit the charts with a fast-paced thrash fest with screaming
vocals, so this is definately good news.
Newsflash / 2004-11-29
Earlier this year, we announced the following:
Both "The gallery" (1995) and "The
mind's I" (1997) will be re-released in special remastered
deluxe editions, featuring brand new booklet layouts as well
as a massive dose of hard-to-find bonus material.
During the years, we've been all too aware of
the lack of availability of our earlier material in the US,
and we've heard from a lot of people about how hard and frustrating
it is to have to track down expensive import versions of the
older albums in order to get the D.T. collections complete.
We got so much positive response from old and new fans when
Century media licenced the "Skydancer" (1993) album
for the US territory a couple of years ago, so it feels great
to finally have "The gallery" and "The mind's
I" enjoying proper stateside distribution as well.
For various reasons, these projects were postponed
for a while, but we just heard from the labels involved that
the albums will see the light of day early next year. The
exact release dates will follow as soon as they're confirmed.
In the meantime, here are the full tracklists including the
bonus material:
THE GALLERY:
1. Punish my heaven
2. Silence, and the firmament withdrew
3. Edenspring
4. The dividing line
5. The gallery
6. The one brooding warning
7. Midway through infinity
8. Lethe
9. The emptiness from which I fed
10. Mine is the grandeur...
11. ...of melancholy burning
12. Bringer Of Torture (Kreator cover)
13. Sacred Reich (Sacred Reich cover)
14. 22 Acacia Avenue (Iron maiden cover)
15. Lady In Black (Mercyful fate cover)
16. My Friend Of Misery (Metallica cover)

05. LOST TO APATHY
06. MIND MATTERS
07. ONE THOUGHT

Important news for everyone planning to attend the Swedish
gigs on the tour. Tickets are now available and can be purchased
at www.ticnet.se (phone: 077-1707070).
The Göteborg venue in particular is pretty
small for a package like this (feat. the mighty KREATOR),
so we recommend everyone to get their tickets as quickly as
possible in order to avoid disappointments.

Here we go - an official announcement regarding the label
situation:
We are exceptionally satisfied to announce that
we've chosen to continue our cooperation with Century Media
for another three albums. After lengthy negotiations with
several prolific labels, the dotted line was finally signed
and we have full confidence that we've made the right choice
and that there are some excellent years ahead - both for us
and for C.M. As some of you know, the new CD is already recorded
and mixed, and the response for the live previews of the song
"One Thought" has been truly great throughout the
summer festivals, so we're eagerly anticipating the release
of the album.
As you can see from the splash screen on this
site, said album is entitled "CHARACTER" and will
see the light of day on January 24 (Europe) / January 25 (USA).
We're certain that your already high expectations will be
met and surpassed, and the advance buzz from people fortunate
enough to have listened to the album is nothing but outstanding.

Newsflash / 2004-09-06
Some bad news - we just recieved information that the Metal
monster festival, on the 9th of October in Istanbul, was cancelled
by the promoter earlier today. We're very disappointed by
this and want to make it clear that the cancellation was the
decision of the festival organizers and not the bands involved.
We were very much looking forward to playing in Turkey again
for the first time since 2001, and hopefully we can schedule
a new gig a.s.a.p.
On a brighter note, the video clip for "Lost
to apathy" is progressing very nicely. Have a look at
some photos from yesterday's shoot here.
Newsflash / 2004-09-01
The band has began working with director Roger Johansson on
a video clip for the song "Lost to apathy", which
will be the first single from the upcoming album. While it's
too early to reveal any details, the end result promises to
be a very different and unique piece of mayhem.
On the the live front, a gig in Istanbul is now
confirmed for the 9th of October.
For those of you hungry for some D.T. swag, please
note that some of the shirt designs sold on the summer festivals
now are available from www.art-worx.de. Tip: Check both under
"Dark tranquillity" and "Dark tranquility".
Some minor site updates have also taken place;
mainly a couple of new live photos and a tattoo credit correction.

We're proud to announce that bassist Michael Nicklasson now
is officially endorsed by the music business' finest: Warwick!
The deal was secured a while ago, and - needless
to say - we're looking forward to a good and prosperous cooperation
in the future. Thanks to Geir at Flaa music for making it
happen.

We just returned home from a splendid trip to Korea and would
like to thank everyone that made it possible for us to play
as headliners in front of 12 000 people at the Busan International
Rock Festival. Performing our blasting metal in the idyllic
setting of the Dadaepo beach with fireworks constantly blazing
is something that we'll remember as one of the most unique
gig experiences in our career.
We were truly stunned by the huge amount of appreciation
we got, both at the festival itself and at the "secret"
club gig in Seoul.
A detailed tour report will be available here
in a not-too-distant future. In the meantime, feel free to
watch some live photos, courtesy of the festival, here.

Korea, here we come! It just got confirmed that we'll play
at the Busan rock festival on the 7-9th of August. The exact
date will be announced shortly.
We're recieving lots of emails from people wondering
about the status of the new album, so it's probably time to
let you in on some of the news. The recording and mixing of
the as-yet-untitled magnum opus is finished, and we'll soon
begin work on the mastering. As we're currently in label negotiations
with some of the most interesting players out there, it's
too early to know any details concerning the release date
and so forth, but rest assured that we'll do our best to make
the album available to you as soon as possible.
A bit late, but nevertheless: "Exposures.."
made an appearance on the national Swedish chart and reached
#85 a mere two days after it was released. No mean feat for
a metal compilation album!
What more? Some new tattoo photos and tabs have
been added to the site and a couple of other minor updates
have been made.

Cheers!
Just wanted to stop by and give you guys an update
on what´s going on in the studio:
We are nearing the completion of this our seventh
album. Anders has been true to form and blasted his way through
the songs with surgical precision as usual. Michael laid down
some bass devastation the other day with furious gut-deforming
lows and ear-denying highs as a result.
Martin and Niklas have shredded above and beyond the call
of duty once more with the rhythm guitars and are ready to
further cast their spells in the form of leads and solos this
week. Martin B is at the moment locked away at an undisclosed
location brewing up potions of electronic wizardry, soon to
be combined into a most volatile mix of metal.
Myself, I have been shackled in the vocal booth
for most of this week and I will remain there for a few more

We couldn´t be more satisfied with the way things are
going and cannot wait to inflict our pain onto others.
Things are looking dark, and we love it.

"Exposures - In Retrospect And Denial":
Dark Tranquillity celebrates its 15th birthday
by releasing a double CD featuring rare and previously unreleased
material.
For many years, we've received lots of questions
regarding the possibility of our pre-album material ever being
released on CD, and we're very happy to provide old and new
fans that are interested in the first chapter of our history
with a viable alternative to forking out a small fortune on
Ebay for a worn-out original copy of the demo or 7" EP.
After a lot of digging though the vaults, the
original DAT tapes for our "Trail Of Life Decayed"
demo (1991) and "A Moonclad Reflection" EP (1992)
were found, and we could happily note that they were intact
and had survived the ten years in limbo remarkably well. With
the help of some carefully executed mastering magic, the sound
quality has been boosted a great deal.
In addition, we have the pleasure of including
a couple of songs that were recorded during the studio sessions
for our last three albums. Some of these tracks, like "Exposure"
and "Cornered", have until now only been available
on limited edition versions of the albums, while some others,
like "Static", "No One" and "In Sight",
are previously unheard by anyone outside the immediate band
circle.
As a special treat, we're also including a second
disc with more than 70 minutes of live songs (the audio portion
of the recently released "Live Damage" DVD. Enjoy!
"Exposures..." comes packaged with
an extensive 20-page booklet filled to the rim with exclusive
photos from all stages of the band's career as well as liner
notes from noted music journalist Chris Dick (www.digitalmetal.com),
a initiated long-time observer of the scene.
The release date for "Exposures…"
will be May 31st via Century Media Records in Europe and the
2-CD will be released for the fair deal of a Single-Disc price.
Further international release dates will be announced shortly!

Next week, we’ll embark to the familiar quarters of
Studio Fredman to begin the recording of our seventh, as-yet-untitled,
full length album. We’re been working extremely hard
with the material and feel that the result will be a diverse
and exciting offering that will leave most of our current
fans more than satisfied. Of course, this is what all bands
say, so you’ll have to wait a couple of months until
you’re able to hear for yourselves. No release date
is set yet, but it’s realistic to assume that the CD
will be out either shortly before or shortly after the summer.
As mentioned, no album title has been decided
yet, but some tentative song titles are “One thought”
(previewed on our recent Italian tour), “Lost to apathy”
and "Mind matters".

Some good news for those of you having problems getting hold
of our earlier releases:
Both "The gallery" (1995) and "The mind's I"
(1997) will be re-released in special remastered deluxe editions,
featuring brand new booklet layouts as well as a massive dose
of hard-to-find bonus material.
During the years, we've been all too aware of
the lack of availability of our earlier material in the US,
and we've heard from a lot of people about how hard and frustrating
it is to have to track down expensive import versions of the
older albums in order to get the D.T. collections complete.
We got so much positive response from old and
new fans when Century media licenced the "Skydancer"
(1993) album for the US territory a couple of years ago, so
it feels great to finally have "The gallery" and
"The mind's I" enjoying proper stateside distribution
as well.
The European versions of the deluxe editions
will be released by Osmose productions. More details regarding
the exact contents of the CD's and their release dates will
be posted in the near future.

Time for some new-year activity on the site. As you probably
have noticed, updates have been somewhat scarce recently,
but rest assured that we're not resting on our laurels. The
songwriting for the next album is commencing with full force,
and in a not-too-distant future we'll begin recording our
seventh full length album. More details regarding where, when
and why will be posted here soon.
The DVD is now available in the US as well -
finally! For a list of (worldwide) online vendors selling
it, please visit Gtranquillity's site at www.dark-tranquillity.nl.
For an upcoming project, we'd like to hear from
people with Dark tranquillity tattoos, so if you're one of
the lucky few, please get in touch via hq@darktranquillity.com.
The mini tour in Italy about a month ago was
a huge success, and we'd like to thank all of you that made
it such a great experience. Photos from some of the shows
will be uploaded in the near future.
Other than this, there are a few promising things,
that doubtlessly will make many of you happy, in the pipeline,
but before anything is 100% confirmed, we can't go public
with any details.

The European version of the DVD will be released in a couple
of days. No news about the US release date yet, but we're
happy to inform that the European version is region-free (code
0), so it will perform correctly on any DVD player.
In other words, non-Euro residents can safely
pre-order the DVD or get it on import if they don't feel like
waiting for the USA-pressed version.

Less than a month left to the DVD release, so it's preview

can now be downloaded from Century media's video section here.
Enjoy!

now finally online. Thanks to Villain for supervision and

Michael Nicklasson's other band, LUCIFERION, will release
their long-awaited 2nd album on Listenable records this September.
Their debut CD, "Demonication", was released already
in 1994 and is seen as a classic album among lovers of brutal
and technical death metal in the old Morbid Angel/Deicide
style.

Some news on the "Live damage" DVD: We have now
seen a beta copy of it and are pleased to inform that the
final result has surpassed all expectations. Everything looks
and sounds fantastic, and the people at Metal mind productions
have done a truly excellent job with making the presentation
as slick and professional as possible.
Apart from the full length show recorded in Krakow
last October, the disc will also include extensive live bootleg
footage, promotional video clips, interactive biography, an
in-depth interview with Mikael and lots of other goodies.
Dolby digital 5.1 surround sound? But of course!
As things look now, the DVD will be available
