An important note: We've recently gotten some emails from people
who have bought "The gallery" or "The mind's I" and found that they
can't play the album on their computers. Apparantly, Osmose productions
began using a copy protection system on all their pressings in February
last year, rendering the albums unreadable on PC's or Macs. This
is, apparantly, not mentioned anywhere on the albums themselves,
so we advise anyone that uses a computer or portable MP3 player
to listen to their albums to double-check if it's a new or old pressing
before purchasing.
Things are going great in the studio and some photos can be seen
by clicking here.
More information on the new little baby will follow shortly.
Tomorrow we'll start recording the next magnum opus, and we're very
enthusiastic about the material. As a special goodie before we lock
ourselves up in the studio, we've added a Real video clip (courtsey
of our regular contributor Volkan Demiröz, thanks a lot!) of two
songs from the Istanbul gig last autumn. A very intimate and crazy
show, as can be seen on the video:

Martin Brändström will be playing keyboards for Tiamat on their
upcoming European tour, which will take place in March/April. Some
dates are already available at the official
Tiamat homepage. Be there and don't forget to bring some free
bottles of Sambuca :-)
A bit late but nevertheless: Massive "happy new year" salutations
from us to you.
Things have been pretty quiet on the news-front for a while, the
reason being that there haven't been that much to tell apart from
the fact that we're extremely busy working on the new album. The
material is taking shape at a steady pace, and as things look now
it will be a very diverse offering featuring musical traces from
all stages of our 12 year career as well as a host of new influences.
The album is still untitled, but some preliminary song titles include
"Cathode ray sunshine", "Static", "The poison well" and "Format
c: for cortex". An experimental video clip for the song "Monochromatic
stains" is also under progress, made by the Greek multimedia artist
Achilleas Gatsopoulos.
More news will follow in the near future. We haven't got any information
on the release date yet, but since we'll be finished in the studio
in March, it's a fair bet that the album will be out in May/June.
Related news (not so recent by not mentioned here earlier) is that
my (Niklas) illustration studio finally has a webpage up:
www.cabinfevermedia.com
Gentle Storm is a new fanpage, made by Elaine from Brazil, that
features lots of links to D.T. interviews and other goodies. Check
it out at:

We've been looking for a good alternative to the ad-infected Ezboard
forum for a while now, and the good news is that the folks at ultimatemetal.com
have offered to help us out. They're currently hosting message boards
for the official Opeth, Katatonia and Nevermore sites (among others),
and they're providing a board pretty similar to the old one in style
and structure, but free from ads and with lots of new features.
They have a good community going, so the move will hopefully fill
your every need in communicating with other metalheads.
Naturally, you'll have to register to begin posting, but I hope
that you don't mind too much spending a few minutes with that since
the benefits of the new board are so many.
The old board will be closed in a couple of days. The new one can
be reached through the menu on the left or by visiting this URL
(don't forget to bookmark it!):

Just back from Istanbul and one of our most amazing experiences
ever! We'd like to send our huge thanks to everyone involved - the
fantastic organizers for having taken care of us in the best possible
way and treating us to the best kebabs in the world, the fans for
their total dedication and overwhelming response, our soundmanager
and caretaker Pit and last, but definately not least, our session
drummer Robin for doing a phenomenal job in learning ten of our
songs in just two days.
Some photos, courtsey of Mustafa Gülüt, can be found here.
If anyone else has any pictures, please mail them to us at hq@darktranquillity.com.
We're also looking for a video tape copy of the gig, so if someone
is willing to help us out, just get in touch.
Changing subject a bit - just stumbled into this Ebay auction that
features our old "Trail..." demo as well as dozens of others rare
swedish metal demos:

Some bad news: Yesterday, Anders Jivarp injured his wrist and unfortunately
won't be able to play the scheduled gig in Istanbul this Saturday.
Instead of cancelling the show, we've recruited Robin Engström (Lefay),
who luckily was willing to fill in on session drums on such short
notice. We're currently rehearsing heavily in order to get everything
prepared as well as possible.
We'll be featured on the "Tenth Anniversary Box Set Collection",
which - as the title suggests - is a upcoming Century Media release
to celebrate their 10 years in business. There will be three discs
all in all, and we'll be on two of them. The "Eastern Hemisphere"
CD will include "The wonders at your feet" and the "Rare & Unreleased"
CD will feature "Exposure". Release date: The 28th of September.
A new section for D.T. songs performed by other bands is now up
in the "medial stimuli" section. Right now, there are only two bands
featured, but we know that there are more. If you know a band with
a D.T. cover available in .mp3-format, please get in touch.
A D.T. screensaver for Windows, made by Volkan Demiröz, is now available
for download in the "medial stimuli" section.
The band will enter Studio Fredman on the 6th of February 2002 to
record their 6th, as yet untitled, full length album. More news
will follow shortly.
The D.T. mailing list has been moved. The company that hosted it,
Listbot, ceased their services, and the newsletter is now moved
to Topica instead. Those who subscribed to the old list should have
recieved an invitation message to join the new one if the transfer
has gone well. If that's not the case, you can visit the following
page to subscribe to the new list:
http://www.topica.com/lists/darktranquillity
New members are of course very welcome too...
Some more details on the Istanbul show: The gig will take place
in the Sold Out Concert Hall (previously called Casablanca). Doors
open at 16:00, and local support bands are Dishearten and Affliction.
In addition, there will be a signing session on the 5th of October
at 13:00 in Köstebek Music (located in the "Aznavur Pasajý").
Martin Brändström will be playing session keyboards for Lucyfire
(the hugely successful gothrock side project of Tiamat vocalist
Johan Edlund) on their 1st ever live show, which will take place
on the Mera Luna
festival in Hannover, Germany, on the 1st of September.
On the 13th of September, the live recording from the Popstad gig
in Gothenburg last spring will be broadcasted again on the swedish
radio station P3. More news regarding time of airing will follow
shortly.
Some minor facelifts made to the intro page. New live photos, from
Wacken, Hell on earth and some other gigs, added to the medial stimuli
page. More will follow soon.
Some photos from Wacken, taken by Serge of Amethyst, can be found
by clicking on the following link - don't forget to check his band
out as well.

More photos can be found by clicking on our band name in the Wacken
report at:

Huge thanks to the fantastic 15000+ crowd who made our gig at the
Wacken festival one of our best live experiences ever. We were a
bit worried that the early showtime would mean a sparse and tired
audience, but we were - of course - dead wrong. The gig was actually
supposed to be filmed and probably released as a live video/DVD
and CD later this year. However, due to schedule changes, the camera
crew (who filmed most of the other bands performing on the main
stage) were on a lunch break (!) during our show, so nothing was
recorded - things like this only happen to D.T.... :-/
Our first ever gig in Turkey is now booked. We're set to play in
Istanbul on 6th of October - more news on this will follow in the
near future.
Huge thanks to the faithful few who stayed for our gig at the H.O.E.
festival last week. Loads of photos from the event can be found
here.
More metal to the masses! On the 23rd of July, Mikael and Niklas
will appear on the national swedish radio (P3) show "Musikjournalen",
broadcasting their personal choise of bands past and present that
have influenced D.T. It'll take place between 17:00 - 18:00. Don't
miss it!
For more info on the "Hell on earth" festival in Austria later this
month, check their official homepage:
http://www.h-o-e.org
Lots of people are mailing asking for info on the next album. As
soon as there are any news (album title, recording date, choise
of studio, general direction etc etc), we'll let you know via the
homepage. Right now it's too early to know much about the outcome
of the album, so please be patient. In the meantime, check out the
Digital Metal feature from last week:

There's a new Mexican D.T. page available on ye olde WWW. Check
it out now at:
http://dtmexico.cjb.net
D.T. will play on the Hell on earth festival in Austria on the 15th
of July. We don't have any more info on this event at the moment.
For the trivia freaks among you, we've added a complete list of
all D.T. gigs ever made. Click here
to view.
Gig cancellation - We just got confirmed that the Dist festival
that was scheduled to take place in Forshaga, Sweden, during the
21st and 22nd of July is cancelled due to lame ticket sales.
Minor site update: Added some recent compilation albums to the discography
page.
We're in the process of compiling a FAQ for this page, so send your
questions to:
hq@darktranquillity.com
Please write "FAQ" in the subject line of your mail.
Two songs, "Midwinter/Beyond enlightenment" and "Vernal awakening",
from our 1991 demo "Trail of life decayed" are now added to the
D.T. page at mp3.com:
www.mp3.com/darktranquillity
Two new Winamp skins by mr. Demiroz added to the medial stimuli
section; check them out!
A note to our Japanese fans: It's now possible to order D.T. shirts
online in your own currency from MegaRock. Visit their site and
see what they have to offer. The page will also feature the latest
D.T. news translated into Japanese.

We're busy writing material for the next album, but will play at
the 2000 Decibel festival in Bengtsfors, Sweden this Saturday (19/5).
See you there!
Mini update: added some photos from the Japan trip to the medial
stimuli section.
We just got back from our 4-date mini tour in Japan and would like
to send a big thanks to all the people that showed up on the gigs
and everybody else involved with the arrangements. Hope to see you
again soon! For a change, we actually managed to shoot some photos
during the trip, so there will be some goodies up in the near future.
No updates for a while, but nothing spectacular has happened in
the D.T. camp recently...We're busy writing material for the next
album and things are progressing fine.
Some recently confirmed live shows:
May 19 - Decibel festival, Bengtsfors, Sweden
July 21-22 - Dist festival, Forshaga, Sweden
August 3 - Wacken open air, Germany
Some more gigs are in the pipeline - stay tuned for more details.
The medial stimuli section will soon be updated with more of the
live photos you've so kindly mailed to us. In the meantime, enjoy

We just got an offer to play tomorrow (!) at the Younomia
festival in Skövde, Sweden. Some other band apparantly cancelled
in the very last minute, so the organizers asked us instead. So,
if you happen to live somewhere nearby, feel free to come by. We'll
start play at around 23:00.
More info on the upcoming gig in Portugal. It's a two day-festival
called Seixal Attack 2001 (no, not Sexual Attack...). Seixal is
the name of the reportedly very beautiful village where the event
takes place, and it's located near Lisboa. Other bands that will
appear on the bill include Nevermore, Soilwork and Annihilator.
We've had our most bizarre TV appearance so far. The daily national
program "Kulturnyheterna" (the cultural news) ran a feature on the
decaying state of new musical talent in Gothenburg. To illustrate
this, they needed some live footage with an "established" band and
shot some clips on our Popstad gig last thursday :-)
For those without anything better to do, there's a Real video clip
available on the shows' homepage. It lasts for ten minutes, and
we're featured somewhere in the middle...just for 25-30 seconds,
but I guess it's still interesting for those who couldn't attend
the gig. Anyway. it's fun to have our live show displayed on the
national TV channel, even if the context is sort of weird.
The clip will be up for another week or something. Click here
to view.
Thanks to all the supportive people that showed up on the gig last
Thursday. Some photos are already up at Swedish metal for those
who are interested:

The response to our mp3.com-page has been excellent. A new gem is
up now, in the shape of the 1991 demo song "Void of tranquillity".
Go get it!
www.mp3.com/darktranquillity
Don't miss the radio/www-broadcasted gig tomorrow (see previous
post)!
We've just added a D.T.-page to www.mp3.com, namely:
www.mp3.com/darktranquillity.
Plans are to collect both album songs as well as rare recordings,
and the major advantage is that the mp3's are available both for
download as well as Hi-fi/Lo-fi streaming. Maximum convenience for
everybody.
Right now, there are a couple of blasts from the past; soundfiles
that were available on the official D.T. page back in '97 or something,
but disappeared along the way, including a 1994 demo version of
"Punish my heaven".
The page is now up again after the transfer to the new server. Thanks
for your patience. And yes, the new version _is_ on its way, but
it'll take some more time before everything is ready. Meanwhile,
there are a few updates on the page including new Winamp skins.
We'd like to thank everybody that showed up on our gigs in Athens
last weekend for their support and fantastic response. We hope to
be back in Greece as soon as possible!
Don't miss the gig at Kåren, Gothenburg on Thursday next week (8/2).
Even if you can't attend physically, you can still listen to the
gig in the comfort of your own home since it's all broadcasted on
internet as well as on Swedish radio station P3. Just follow this
link and click on the radio-icon on the lower left (you can't miss
it) to hear the streaming broadcast.

Here is the schedule in CET (Central european time):
Evergrey - 19:00
Transport league - 20:30
Dark Tranquillity - 21:30
In Flames - 22:45
More news - we have a gig in Portugal on the 1st of March. That's
about everything we know about it at the moment. More info on that
as soon as possible.
Lots of people have mailed and asked about the carichature (below).
It's made by the excellent Greek artist Achilleas Gatsopoulos, who
also has made some fantastic individual portraits that will be displayed
here soon. Do yourself a favour and visit his homepage here:
http://clik.to/achilleas

The gigs in Athens, Greece, will take place at the Woodstock club
on the 27th and 28th of January (yes, it's two gigs at the same
place)
We now have a string of gigs in Japan confirmed, with Children of
Bodom as co-headliners:
06.04. Osaka, Japan, Heat Beat
08.04. Nagoya, Japan, Bottom Line
09.04. Tokyo, Japan, On Air East
10.04. Tokyo, Japan, On Air East
Swedish TV station TV2 recently did a feature on us, featuring some
rehearsal room footage and a short interview. So far, it has been
broadcasted on national TV a couple of times.
It seems very likely that we'll finally get to play in Greece! Two
gigs in Athens with The Haunted are being planned for the 27-28th
of January. More info will follow soon. We'll also play at Kåren,
Gothenburg on February 8 together with Evergrey, Transport League
and In Flames. For those who can't be on location, the whole event
will be broadcasted live(!) on Swedish radio (P3).
Updates: Added some livepics from the Y2K European tour to the medial
stimuli section. More photos will be uploaded soon.
The limited edition picture LP version of "Haven" is now available
from Century
media. Note that there won't be a regular (black) vinyl version
printed.
The "In the eyes of death vol. II" compilation CD is now out, also
from Century media, and should be available at a bargain prize from
the usual outlets.
Apart from this, we're busy writing new songs for the next album.
It's all at a very early stage, and it's impossible to predict how
the material will end up sounding when everything is finished, but
we'll keep you posted.
Added a video clip (Real Media) of "Punish my heaven", taken from
the "World domination" live video '97, to the medial stimuli section.
Unfortunately, I can't get the streaming to work quite yet due to
the crap server (we'll change in the near future), so the file must
be downloaded.
Quick update: Added a "Trail..." Winamp skin to the medial stimuli
section. Thanks to everybody who have sent in live photos from the
European tour - they'll be up in a day or two.
We just came back from a splendid week in Mexico and would like
to thank all the great people that we met during our stay. Hope
to see you soon again!
Some fresh news: Century media will release a limited edition picture
LP of "Haven" within a month or two. More details when it's available.
The elusive song "Exposure", which was originally planned to be
a bonus track for the "Projector" digipack but only ended up on
a few copies, will be featured on the "In The Eyes Of Death 2" compilation
CD, released in late November by Century media.
Here we go again...We just got the news that the gig in Monterey,
Mexico this friday is cancelled! We have no idea why at this point.
Note that the other gigs in Mexico City and Guadalajara WILL happen.
We're doing final rehearsal today and will fly to Mexico tomorrow
- see you there!
Just to clarify one thing - some people have misinterpreted the
statement below, thinking that Century Media is to blame for the
cancellation and that they therefore suck major dick and don't give
a fuck about their bands. This is way out of the line. Truth is
that they actually offered to pay us far more money in tour support
than what they're contractually obliged to do - so they did their
very best to get us on that tour and they are as disappointed as
everyone else that we couldn't make it this time.
The main thing is that it's extremely expensive to bring a Euro
band over for their first tour in the states, and in some cases
the figures just don't add up.
Just wanted to set the record straight on this, since the reason
for the statement in the first place was to avoid speculations and
rumours, not to give birth to new ones...
Some really sad news - we can't tour the US this fall as planned.
Please read the following to find out why:
TO OUR U.S. FANS,
First of all, we know that some of you will be really disappointed
upon learning about the cancellation, and we can assure you that
we're every bit as sorry ourselves.
In order to avoid any rumors or speculations, we've decided to make
this official statement explaning the factual reasons for not embarking
on the tour.
After having tried everything to negotiate as good conditions as
possible, our management made the calculation that even with maximum
tour support from our label, we still would be roughly 10 000 USD
short of covering the fixed expenses (flight costs, our part of
the bus rent, crew wages etc) of the tour. In other words, we would
have to pay 10 000 USD from our own pockets just in order to be
able to participate on the tour - and we simply don't have that
kind of money.
As you understand, this isn't a case of skipping the tour because
of not earning any big bucks on it, but rather a case of not being
able to be away from our day jobs for a month while having to pay
a fortune in the process. Contrary to what many people think, bands
aren't earning much money - if any at all - from touring, unless
they're headlining.
Also, our drummer Anders just became a father and has the best reasons
in the world to stay at home for a while. Robin from LEFAY kindly
agreed to play session drums on the tour, and we had already began
working when the sad news of the financial realities reached us.
Sorry, Robin.
Instead of touring, we're now starting to work on our 6th album
instead. We still hope and think that we'll be able to play in the
states in the near future, and hopefully all of our American fans
realise that we are skipping this tour not because of laziness or
lack of interest in touring the US, but because we have no other
choise. We've been looking forward to play in the states for several
years, and it's extremely unfortunate that it couldn't be done this
time.
Respectfully,
the D.T. members.
Thanks to everybody who showed up on the European tour for their
support! We continue our crusade by finally announcing some gigs
in Mexico. There has been lots of confusion since the dates have
been changed several times, but now we have the following gigs confirmed:
October 27 - Monterey
October 28 - Mexico City
October 29 - Guadalajara
We'll be leaving for the European tour in a couple of days. Some
revisions to the tourschedule have been announced - click here
for the current dates.
As on the last tour, there will be a tour diary, which you can follow
by clicking here.
We'll try to update it as often as possible, and this time the Italian
gigs WILL be included ;-)
Century Media will re-release the "Skydancer + Of chaos and eternal
night" CD for the US market. The album, originally released by Spinefarm,
has never been easy to get hold of in the states, but this will
soon change. The reissue will be out on September 19, with brand
new artwork, which can be viewed in the "Discography" section.
The new forum is up and running, and can be accessed by clicking
below. There are lots of advantages with using an EzBoard forum
instead of the obsolete old one, but the main reason for changing
is that the messages are better structured and it's easier to get
a good overview...Anyway, visit by clicking below:

We just got the following dates for the Swedish leg of the tour:
04.10 Malmö, KB
05.10 Stockholm, Klubben
06.10 Uppsala, Metro
07.10 Göteborg, Kåren
Full tour schedule here!
I'll soon start working on a totally new version of this homepage.
It'll take a while before it's finished, but everybody is welcome
to mail any suggestions, ideas or requirements on what they want
on the new site. Anything you feel is missing on the current page?

Just got informed by the company that hosts this page that they
are currently changing servers. This is the reason why the site
has been down every now and then the last week. They'll continue
testing and moving the servers during the rest of the summer, but
hopefully there won't be too much problems...
Some minor updates - new splashpage, updated discography with a
bootleg section.
Thanks to all people who showed up at our announced-in-the-last-minute
release party in Gothenburg last monday. We sadly weren't able to
play live, as is common practice on release parties, since all members
weren't at home, but be assured that there will be a gig at the
next release party!

September. More info with confirmed dates etc in the near future.
Huge thanks to all Italian fans who made our appearance at the G.O.M.
festival such an overwhelming experience! As some may have heard,
our gig at the Wave Gothik Treffen in Leipzig, Germany never occured
since the whole festival got cancelled the day before our scheduled
show due to financial problems (!)
The release date of "Haven" is getting closer, and here is the promised
mp3 taster in the shape of "Feast of burden" (taken from the Century
media website).

Recent soundcheck positions (Germany): Orkus magazine: #2, Rock
hard magazine: #3. European tour dates are on the verge of getting
confirmed - stay tuned for more info.
Believe the hype! "Haven" is getting first positions in the soundcheck

Site updates: "Haven" added to the discography, new live pics added
to the "medial stimuli" section, cover artwork for our old demo
and EP now available as hi-res images for download and print. Lyric
page almost finished now.
We've decided NOT to feature any preview mp3's for "Haven" since
we believe that the album should be listened to and digested in
its full glory....just kidding. An mp3-taster will be uploaded in
the very near future, so stay tuned!
Some brief news: The promocopies of "Haven" have been pressed and
are currently being circulated among the media. Initial reactions
have been awesome so far. It's now confirmed that the "ThereIn"-video
will make a multimedia appearance on the first edition of the album.
A pretty different D.T. site, "Midway through infinity", has been
created by Keir Howell. Check it out:

After 666 days of delays, the soundclips of our early demos and
7" EP's are available again, thanks to Martin @ The Hive. Check
them out at the "medial stimuli" section.
"Haven" is mixed, mastered and sent away for pressing, so we're
eagerly awaiting the release. In the meantime, some brief news:
The first pressing of "Haven" will probably feature the video to
"ThereIn" as added multimedia bonus.

Upcoming festival dates:
June 9: Pratteln, Switzerland
June 10: Gods of metal, Rome, Italy
June 12: Wave Gotik treffen, Leipzig, Germany
For journalists in need of pictures / logo for articles, there's
now a "Press" section with high resolution band photos ready to
be downloaded and printed: www.darktranquillity.com/press
Unless a major disaster occurs, the mixing of the new album will
be finished today, so I thought I'd let you in on some details.
This was probably the smoothest running recording session in the
history of the band, with things going exceptionally well right
from the start. The usual procedure includes all sorts of equipment
fuck-ups, delays and various problems, but this time we had nothing
of the sort.
We're all very pleased with the end result, both sound- and musicwise,
and are curious to see how people react to the album. Release date
is set to July 17 for both Europe and the states.
Songs likely to appear on "Haven" are:
The wonders at your feet, Feast of burden,
Haven, Rundown, Not built to last, Fabric, Indifferent suns, Ego
drama, The same, At loss for words and Emptier still.
More details will follow in the near future.
Good news for our Russian fans: The lyrics to some of our albums
are now translated to Russian, thanks to Defeat Scythe. Check it
out on this URL:
http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/waterloo/759/index2.htm
Things are going fine with the recording of the upcoming magnum
opus "Haven". We're midway through the studio session, with drums,
bass and rhythm guitars having been laid to tape. It seems likely
that the album will see the light of day in mid-July. We'll return
with more info in the near future.
Gig update: D.T. will appear on the "Wave Gotik Treffen" in Leipzig,
Germany on June 12. Site update: Some banners are added to the "misc"
section.
Site update: Merchandise info added to the "Order"-section. Only
two t-shirts available so far, but more will follow soon. Also added
a lousy Flash-intro to the page. There will be a massive re-design
of this page after new album is recorded, so make sure to have your
browers prepared. If you don't have the Shockwave player installed
already, download it at:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/
No updates for a while, since we're over-the-top busy with the preparations
for the new CD. Recordings will begin in two weeks, and the album
will most possibly be entitled "Haven".
On the live-front, we're set to appear at the "Gods of metal" festival
in Italy in June, where we will showcase some of the new material.
Hopefully there will be more festival dates confirmed soon.
We'll start the recording of the next album in late March, again
at Studio Fredman. The album title is yet to be decided, but songs
include "Emptier still", "Ego drama", "Haven", "Cornered", "Misery
in me" and "The wonders at your feet". As for the nature of the
music, we can't reveal too much before the recording is actually
done, but it will be a diverse, heavy and intense album for sure.
Stay tuned for a studio report on these pages.
I (Niklas) have just finished the homepage for my illustration studio,

D.T. is nominated for the Swedish Grammy awards. The band appreciates
this confirmation of their artistic integrity and desire to reinvent
their music instead of safely staying within the same musical borders
year after year.
The awards ceremony will take place on February the 14th.
Site updates: New live photos added and more on their way, new Winamp
skins added, Y2K bug in the forum fixed. The band is busy writing
material for the next album, and are still checking different studio
possibilities out. Some other interesting things are in the pipeline,
but haven't been confirmed yet. Check this space for updates ;-)
If you have access to Swedish radio, don't miss D.T. on "P3 live"
on the 9th of December, 21:03.
Some observant people have informed that the "ThereIn"-video can
be viewed with the ThrottleBox player at www.throttlebox.com.
Download the player, install it and begin browsing their page for
the D.T. clip as well as videos from various other Century media
artists.
The dutch band Ethereal spawn have an mp3 of their live version
of "Punish my heaven". The song will actually be featured on their
debut album as well, which is a great honour for us. Visit their
page at: http://listen.to/etherealspawn.
Small update; some live pictures added in the "medial..." section
as well as links to mp3-files of our '91 demo and '92 EP.
The tour went went well, and we'd like to thank all the supportive
and generally nice people we met along the way. The planned tour
diary-thing didn't turn out as well as planned, basically because
we were relying on less-than-stable mobile phone connections that
refused to work more often than not. Apologies for the lack of updates
towards the end.
On the 9:th of December, 21:03, the national swedish radio channel
P3 will send a live recording from the gig in Gothenburg on their
"P3 live"-show, so those who missed the tour can get a taster of
what it was like.
What more? The band is busy writing material for the next album,
and we're aiming for a recording within the first half of 2000.
Thanks to all those who have sent us live pictures from the tour.
There will be an update of this page with lots of photos as soon
as possible.
The band just returned home from a glorious mini-tour in Japan.
We'll soon embark on the European tour, and some gigs in scandinavia
have been added to the trip. Click here for the full tourplan.
Make sure to follow the exclusive tour diary which will be available
on this site. You'll be able to follow the band on their 5-week
trek, with updates being made almost every day.
It has been a while since the last update, and several sections
of the page are still quite empty. This is regretable, but since
things are extremly hectic with the band at the moment (obviously,
this must be the highest priority), there isn't much time left for
working with the site.
Some new flesh has been added though; in the "medial stimuli"-section,
there are two cool Winamp skins based on the "Projector" design.
Also, some live pictures are available. There will be lots of more
stuff added when time permits. Anyone with D.T.-photos are welcome
to send them to hq@darktranquillity.com.
The best contribution will win a signed copy of our next album.
"Projector" is now released in the states, and should be available
from the usual outlets. A limited edition vinyl LP has also been
released. For more info on these, contact century
media.
Minor update: The lyrics to "Exposure" are now available here.
The situation is rather confusing regarding this bonus track. It's
only featured on some "Projector" digipacks, and is not mentioned
in the tracklisting on some of these.
US release date for "Projector" is confirmed now: August the 10th.
"Projector" is finally released and should be hitting the stores
in Europe this week. No details are confirmed regarding the date
of the US release.
Apparantly, only some of the "Projector" digipacks feature the elusive
"Exposure" bonus track. Apologies for the misleading info.
The video clip for "ThereIn" is currently being edited, and it looks
very promising; far more professional than what is the norm in the
field.
As you may notice, the homepage is re-designed. The massive new
version with tons of new features isn't finished yet, but I wanted
the page to have at least a facelift to celebrate the release of
the new album. Since I'm updating a little at a time, some things
may occasionally look a bit strange. Don't worry in that case. Feel
free to report missing links and other fuck-ups to hq@darktranquillity.com.
The first pressing of "Projector" will be in a limited edition digipack
format, featuring the added luxury of the bonus track "Exposure".
D.T. has been confirmed to play at the following events:
July 9th: Tuska metal fest, Helsinki, Finland
August 6th: Biebob Festival, Biebob, Belgium
August 7th: Wacken Open Air, Germany
A temporary tour schedule for the European tour with IN FLAMES,
CHILDREN OF BODOM and ARCH ENEMY can be found here.
We don't have anything to do with the planning of the touring route,
so please don't send any questions why we don't play in your hometown
;-)
"FreeCard" sample available again, see "audial stimuli" section.
FINALLY - the soundfiles are available again, thanks to the digital
hospitality of Displacer, the man behind Displacer's Death tab -
the greatest tabulature resource on the net. He has kindly provided
us with server space to host the D.T. mp3-files. All budding musicians
should visit his site, and DO note the new url:
http://www.dsrmusic.com/metaltab
Note that "FreeCard" isn't uploaded to the new location yet.
More news: The band will be shooting a video clip for "ThereIn"
in the near future.
A redesign of this site is underway, and plans are to launch it
in connection with the "Projector" release. If you have any specific
ideas about what you want to see on the new site, just drop a mail
and we'll take it under consideration.
"Projector" promo-CDs are now being circulated to magazines and
radio stations. In the first printed review, the album was awarded
a prestigous 100/100 mark in the influential Italian FLASH magazine.
As a teaser, we here present an excerpt from the review:
"The Swedish band Dark Tranquillity is in
my opinion one of the best band of the 90s. With their debut "Skydancer"
they managed to unite fast death metal with melodic lines and acoustic/folk
interludes when noone was thinking about it. They then picked up
At the Gates' sceptre and raised it at the highest point with the
still technically unmatched "The Gallery" and after this they kicked
the asses of all the new ultra-melodic newbie bands with their exceptional
"The Mind's I" and its tour.
Now that melodic death metal has become an involutive and stereotyped
genre, Dark Tranquillity twsit the coordinates and throw themselves
on paths never tried before, thus creating this masterpiece called
"Projector". This disc is powered by an hyper-technologic production
which underlines the souds of bass, clean voice and undistorted
guitars, creating an atmospherical yet decadent effect which stains
the whole album with its dark and sad colours.
[...]
This is a once-in-a-lifetime disc, one of those works which wraps
you since the first listening and make you forget eveything else
around you with its own music. Everyone should own, avoiding all
kind of prejudice and classification, letting himself go to the
pure art enclosed in "Projector".
This is an incredible step beyond for the even more genious Dark
Tranquillity, and if you are going to betray the band now you are
not worthy to own and listen to their older albums... needless to
say, "Projector" has wiped away every other CD from my stereo and
car!

FLASH - Courtesy of the author and the magazine (translated from
Italian.)

Pure coolness, ready to conquer the world - the new D.T. line-up
from l to r:
Niklas Sundin - guitars, Michael Niklasson - guitars, Anders Jivarp
- drums, Martin Henriksson - bass, Mikael Stanne - vocals and Martin
Brändström - electronics.
The old sound files are still unavailable, but to compensate for
this, we now offer the complete album version of "ThereIn" for download:
therein.mp3
(4 832 mB).
Due to reasons beyond our control, the gig in Wuppertal has unfortunately
been cancelled.
Release date for "Projector" is now set: June 23. As can be seen
on the index page, the cover image has been changed.
Things have been immensely busy recently, so there haven't been
any time for maintaining this page. The removed mp3-files still
haven't found a new location, and there are other things that need
updating, but patience will be rewarded...
The band has decided to sign a worldwide deal with Century Media,
and are hoping for a release of "Projector" sometime in June.
Some site-related news: The fan-page links are temporarly removed,
since most the links were dead. In the future, we'll only include
pages that are submitted to us with an URL. If you have a D.T. page
and want it linked, please mail us and we'll fix it a.s.a.p.
The mail forwarding service has proven popular, and due to the massive
number of requests, we draw the limit now. In order for the mail
redirection to work smoothly, we can't accept further adresses.
All previously requested aliases should work now. If you've submitted
an adress but still are having trouble with it, please send a mail
to
forward@darktranquillity.com.
The mp3-files of the songs from "Projector" have been so popular
that the site has exceeded it's allowed traffic-rate this month.
Therefore, all sound files will be moved to another server. This
will be taken care of within a couple of days, but the sound files
are removed from this server and are therefore temporarly unavailable.
As some of you may have noticed, the homepage hasn't been performing
so well the last couple of days. It's hard to access ("server not
responding"), it's taking forever to load when it does work, and
the forum seems to have vanished ("document contains no data").
Also, the counter has been reset to an humiliating two-digit number
instead of the massive 45000-score it used to have ;-)
We've mailed the server provider about the problems, and hope that
things will get back to normal a.s.a.p.
D.T. will headline a festival gig at H.D.J., Wuppertal, Germany
on the 17th of April. This will be our first show in almost a year,
and among the other appearing bands are Misanthrope and Night in
gales. The set will feature the best of the old material as well
as a couple of tracks from "Projector".
Mp3-file of "Lady in black" from the mercyful fate tribute album
added to the audial stimuli-section.
lady in black.mp3 (2078 kB)
There are several bands who have performed covers of D.T.-songs
live, but the dutch band Ethereal
Spawn seems to be the first to include one on an official release.
Their upcoming MCD will feature their version of "Punish my heaven".
Since the album is a bit delayed, we're now publishing another mp3
preview. This time it's a track called "ThereIn", in an edited version
made exclusively for this website. Download by clicking below:
therein.mp3 (2255 kB)
Since we've been recieving requests about it, we now offer a mailredirection
service. You can now impress your friends and relatives by having
a mail adress in the format:
yourname@darktranquillity.com
This is a mail alias that will forward incoming mails to an adress
of your choise. In order to obtain an alias on the d.t.-domain,
just send a letter to:
forward@darktranquillity.com
stating the wanted alias as well as the adress that that the mails
will be forwarded to. This won't cost you anything. The mail server
has been working well so far, but in case that something fucks up
or doesn't come through properly, we don't hold any responsability
for it. This is just an experiment. If for some reason it doesn't
work out, we'll delete the aliases (but this isn't likely to happen).
Times are a-changin' and so is the band. 1999 brings the second
line-up change in the ten-year history of D.T. Our second guitarist
Fredrik Johansson is now out of the band for various reasons, and
his slot is filled by our bassist Martin Henriksson. In addition
to this, we welcome new member Martin Brändström on keyboards and
electronics. The bass job is still vacant, and we're currently searching
for a suitable person to add to the ranks.
Contrary to what's previously been known, "Projector" will not be
released through OSMOSE PRODUCTIONS. The band is currently negotiating
with several well-known labels for a new contract. Hopefully, this
won't delay the album for too long. At present, it looks realistic
to assume that it'll be released around April. We want to state
that the split with OSMOSE was entirely amicable and we've had a
great working relationship with them for four years.
Guitar tabs are now available at the misc-section. These tabs were
taken from Displacer's death tab and Death Warp, which are doing
an excellent job. Please visit and support them.
An mp3 file of "22 acacia avenue" from the Iron Maiden tribute album
is now uploaded to the audial stimuli-section.
A chat room has been added to the page. It's not the most original
thing nowadays, and perhaps there won't be more than one person
there most of the time, but there will be chat sessions with the
band every now and then if there is an interest. We'll see what
happens.
Want a sneak preview of the cover artwork for "Projector"? Click here.
The chat log from the 2nd of November is now available. Info on
the new album and much more...
Download from here.
The tracklist for "Projector" is now finished, and the full lyrics
will be published in the near future. The total playing time will
be around 50 minutes, and the hit parade in question reads as follows:
FreeCard, ThereIn, Undo Control, Auctioned,
To a Bitter Halt, The Sun fired Blanks, Nether Novas, Day To End,
Dobermann, On your Time
A lot of people have requested the lyrics to "FreeCard", so here
they are:

We now have a new mailing list. Those who subscribed to the previous
list will have to submit their email adress again. Sorry for the
inconvinience, but this list will stay permanent from now on.
New adjustments are made gradually on the page, so it may occasionally
look like hell...There's a message board up and running now, though
the layout is a bit messy. Due to lack of time, the only way to
get the page renewed is to make a little at a time, so please be
patient.
As some of you probably noticed, our old homepage disappeared from
the digital face of the earth a month or so ago. Bayside, the US
company that provided server space for the page, shut all activity
down without informing their customers. We now have our own domain,
hosted by a more professional firm, to ensure that such a disaster
never will occur again.
This is basically the old page, uploaded to a new location. A re-design
is on its way, where we'll take advantage of the improved features
the new server offers. However, it'll take some time before everything
is ready.
Good news - the new album is now recorded and mixed; its title:
"Projector". This mindblasting meisterpiece will see the light of
day in Jan/Feb '99, but as a bonus for our the netbound fans, we
have a full song, "FreeCard", available in mp3 format - almost half
a year before the release of the album! Download it by clicking
below.
FreeCard.mp3 (4 286 kB)
If you don't have an mp3-player, download the best one at:
www.winamp.com
Please don't mail the band with questions on how to download and
play the song. There's info to be found all over the web, so just
find it yourself, ok?
The plans for a message board on these pages are postponed, but
J.P. Morin's Beyond Death discussion forum should appeal to all
conversation-hungry fans of D.T. and similar bands. Go there now!

D.T. will be featured on the "Statements of intent" compilation
album, the primer release of the new Earache sublabel Wicked World.
We actually don't know which track that is set for inclusion, but
it's most likely a song from "The mind's I". Release date for the
comp.CD is July 27.
"The gallery" has been released on picture disc LP. For more info
regarding this AND the other releases, please mail to OSMOSE and
not the band.

"World domination live" is out now, on both video and CD. Despite
the somewhat cheesy packaging and presentation, the actual gig-recording
is of high quality and should be purchased as soon as possible by
interested parties. Tracklist:
Dreamlore degenerate, Punish my heaven Insanity's
crescendo, Zodijackyl light Lethe, Constant, Of chaos and eternal
night
Video- and soundclips will hopefully be published here soon.
A D.T. message board will soon be added on these pages thanks to
the tabulature-wizard and programming-guru Displacer. Visit his
site and welter in notation!

The next full length album will be recorded in august/september,
again in studio fredman, gothenburg. It's still too early for any
reports on the direction of the new material, but people will probably
be surprised...
Advance soundfiles will be published here shortly after the recording.
The live-video and double live CD recorded on the OSMOSE label tour
in december '97 will be released in july. We'll add some video-
and soundclips to this site as soon as the product as available.
Note that it features ALL the bands on the tour, not only D.T.
We don't have the full track listing yet, but there will be material
from all full-length albums and probably a cover song as well...
Speaking of soundfiles, this is something for all you who have been
asking for our pre-album material:
http://mobile.unicel.ru/dt/index.htm
This russian server contains mp3-files of ALL demo and 7" recordings,
as well as two unreleased songs written in '92.
The US guitar magazine CHAOS THEORY have published a complete guitar
tab / notation score of "punish my heaven" in their premier issue.
The song is adequately transposed, and all wannabe-guitarheroes
should buy it now :-)
http://mars.superlink.net/~ferris/tablature_magazine.htm
The band will probably not play any gigs during the summer due to
the imminent album-recording. Photos from our latest show can be
found here.
